I live in Northeast Georgia with my wife, son, daughter, four dogs, and sometimes, a cat.

College years were spent at Georgia Southern College, The University of Georgia and The School of Visual Arts. Although my major was art, I believe that no school can 'make' you an artist. It can provide encouragement, inspiration and an environment - but you must teach yourself.

The job description for someone like me is 'freelance illustrator'. This means you work for most anyone but when the job is finished you are unemployed - until the next job.

I enjoy my work. And while every assignment is not an excuse to throw a party, each project does bring its own challenges and usually a sense of satisfaction with its completion.

Creating illustrations is a fun way to make a living, but working at home can be a little different. Instead of coffee breaks I may have a 'locate the source of the smell in the refrigerator' break or a 'what was this before the dogs got hold of it?' break. I don't have to clock in, but I also never get to clock out.

My life as an illustrator began with sports and editorial cartoons followed by magazine illustration, advertising, children's books and art prints. Sometimes between these art phases was a "hmmm.... should I have majored in something else?" moment - but it always passed with the start of a new job.

Most of my work now consists of book illustration and art prints. All of the work on this site was created using oils. I prefer oils to acrylics or watercolors.

I would also have liked - I think - being an astronaut or jet fighter pilot but as my mom always said, "that's the way the cookie crumbles".

How that applies to career choices I am not sure, but then... she could associate most anything with dessert.
